On this tour, we drive along the south coast of Iceland, one of the most scenic routes in the country. The tour will take us as far as the town of Vík, a peaceful village surrounded by beautiful bird cliffs. Along the way, we will stop at places like the beautiful Seljalandsfoss waterfall, a photogenic waterfall you can walk behind and through to the other side. The next mandatory stop will be at the majestic Skógafoss waterfall which drops some awe-inspiring 60 meters (197 ft.) of its cliff. During summer (May-mid-September) we will also stop at Dyrhólaey cliff which is home to one of Iceland’s largest puffin colonies and well known for its diverse birdlife and awesome view of the coastline. Next in line is the black sand beach at Reynisfjara where the North-Atlantic ocean hammers the coastline with its ever-present strength. There we can also admire the basalt-columns in the cliffs above the beach and get great photos of Reynisdrangar rock formations. After the black beach, we head to the town of Vík where we might grab a late lunch and visit the local shops for some souvenirs.
Additional stop on this tour is the Urriðafoss waterfall on the glacial river Þjórsá, often ignored by the major tour operators.
Optional stops might include but are not limited to: the Lava Center (admission fee), the Gljúfrabúi waterfall and the Skógar folk museum (admission fee).
Optional activities might include Glacier walk/climb on Sólheimajokull glacier tongue or even a snowmobile tour on Mýrdalsjökull glacier. Both activities must be pre-booked. Also, there is an optional hike to a DC3 plane wreck in the area.
